Middle School Encore Classes Clarification

Middle School Schedule During Phase 1

The modification of the normal schedule due to remote learning is this:

9am class is the 8:45 major subject class (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies)

10am class is 10:15 (6th Grade) /11:00 (7th & 8th Grade) major subject class (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies)

11am is Encore class (Art, PE/Health, World Language, Performing Arts)

12pm is 1:15 major subject class (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies)

1pm is lunch

Please be advised that Encore Classes (Art, Drama, Music, Physical Education & Health, and World Language) will not be meeting according to the daily schedule that your child has on Infinite Campus.

The groupings for Encore Classes are determined by their schedule on Infinite Campus. When looking at Infinite Campus, the tail end of their class number is their grade number-1 or 2. See the examples below:

All encore, Social Studies and Science groupings are the same (so if your child is 8-1 for Art, they are 8-1 for World Language, Music etc.)

Here is the Phase 1 Encore schedule for the students in the middle school. They are not meeting the same days as they would inside the school building. Apologies for the confusion.

We would like to thank you all for your patience and flexibility in the beginning of the school year. The classroom teachers have been working extremely hard as they acclimate to the new normal of online learning. We are proud of their efforts and are sure that we will see great success while we remain in phase one.

The Early Childhood Department has given virtual backpacks to all students in Pre-K 3 & 4. We began distribution last week. If you have not already picked up your child's virtual backpack, please come by the school any day this week. They are available from 9 - 11 and 1-2 each day.

Encore classes begin this week. Your child's teacher should have their schedule posted no later than Monday morning. Please note that Encore classes will be rotating for live instruction. For weeks that are not live, teachers will provide remote learning assignments. Middle School Schedule clarification can be found here. So you are aware, here is rotation schedule:

We would like to thank the PTA and Social Chair Ms. Chan for their work to acquire a donation of microphones and mirror cameras (like document cameras) for some of our teachers. We will share the wealth among the grades so they can continue to provide quality instruction.

Mr. Cabrera has overseen the distribution of chromebooks this week. Should you still need a device, please reach out to him (scabrera@jcboe.org). Please note that while we have received a small order of chromebooks, we still are in need of more in order to give one to every student. Therefore, please hold off on your request if you already have a working device. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

After chromebook distribution winds down at the beginning of this week, we will prepare for the distribution of textbooks. We currently await some orders and do not want to have multiple distributions. We will provide a schedule for you next week.

At this point, all students should have access to Google Classroom. That is where you will find the most up to date information and assignments. Recently registered students have been reported to the district Ed Tech office in order to get their accounts working. Please be patient as these accounts are in the process of being created. Once they are, we will be in contact. If you are in need of information from the teachers, please email your child's teachers. Their addresses and Google Classroom codes are included: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xsdcNmjkrMtsHofte-Tibe8iEkFdhouejXiXmN29ID0/edit?usp=sharing

If your child is unable to get into their jcpsnj.org account (which allows access to Google Classroom), please try the following passwords (they case-sensitive):'

Username: IDNUMBER@jcpsnj.org
example: 123456@jcpsnj.org

Possible passwords:
  • studentLMI2021
  • cordero2021
  • password
If none of those passwords work, please complete the password reset request form:

Thursday, September 10 is a full day of school using remote learning with students needing to report via Google Classroom in grades K-8 and with teacher instructions sent to parents for Pre-K 3 & 4.

Students in Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 should have been connected by their teacher who provided instructions on plans for tomorrow.

Students in grades K-5 will meet with their homeroom teacher at 9am and receive further instructions for the day's schedule.

Students in grades 6-8 will meet with their first period teacher at 9am *(listed as 8:45 on Infinite Campus' schedule). Note that Middle School Students will not meet with their homeroom teachers. Students will only meet only with ELA, Math, Social Studies and Science Teachers tomorrow depending on their schedule.

Students in our Self-Contained Special Education Classrooms will meet with their teachers at 9am.

Teachers should have reached out via Google Classroom to invite students in grades K-8. Pre-K teachers should have reached out directly to their students for plans for tomorrow.

In case you still are unaware of your child's homeroom, please email Mr. Stanton directly (dstanton@jcboe.org) and he will assist.

The YMCA Program begins it's virtual after-school program tomorrow. Please see the schedule here as well as an introductory video:

We are excited to begin the school year even during this strange time. We know that this is not going to be perfect tomorrow but we ask for your patience. We are going to work as hard as we can to get things right. Like a marathon, we will take this step by step and ultimately reach our goal of meeting every student's needs.

If you need further assistance, we will be outside the building to assist you. Please wear a mask and follow social distancing as we have for all distributions.

  • Hello again! We hope that you and your family are enjoying your Labor Day weekend. Today's digest will not be our last communication before school opens for students on Thursday. This will give further details so that we can help you prepare. Please remember that teachers come back Tuesday and they will be providing more details specific to their classroom.
How do I know my child's teacher?
I received a call saying that my child's jcpsnj.org account password was changed and my child/I tried to log into jcpsnj.org account and the password supplied did not work. What do I do to get in?
  • Remember that their login for jcpsnj.org is through Google. Once there, you need to log in. Their jcpsnj.org account is their student ID Number @jcpsnj.org. You will need your child's ID Number to do so. Please call the office (201-714-4390) or email contactps37@jcboe.org if you do not have it.
  • If your child has been using the jcpsnj.org account in the last 60 days, the password was NOT changed. Please try the password your child has been using.
  • If your child has NOT been using the jcpsnj.org account in the last 60 days, the password should have been reset by the district to studentLMI2021
  • If your child is new to the school, please complete the form below.
  • If you still have no luck getting in, please notify us through this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScHQP8CV6Ge1SVJaeOzfbQvRIH3JLw06kx4EEfhCKgZ4LTY7w/viewform

What will Thursday consist of?
  • Students will be able to meet their teachers and begin instruction on Thursday. We are all going to be trying the first day of school online for the first time ever. There will be plenty of issues related to logging in and instruction. Please be patient as we are all trying our hardest to make this situation as good as we possibly can.
  • Details for Pre-K are being finalized and we will have a special call for Pre-K parents on Tuesday. That information will be also supplied when we provide your child's classroom. If you have not filled out that form, please do so here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf6nbMYUHqdjNd_2QbPsmbe96oH063MKW0QKFIJ9ssUfi1CNw/viewform
  • Students in grades K-2 will meet their teachers online at 9 am. Teachers will explain what will happen for the day and their regular schedule. At 8:30, students need to log into their jcpsnj.org accounts and be able to see morning announcements from their email.
  • Students in grades 3-5 classrooms will need to meet with the homeroom teacher. The teachers will explain which schedule to follow and how online times for whole group will work. At 8:30, students need to log into their jcpsnj.org accounts and be able to see morning announcements from their email.
  • Students in grades 6-8 will meet with their teacher for the 8:45 period on Thursday at 9 am. The teachers will explain which schedule to follow and how online times for whole group will work. At 8:30, students need to log into their jcpsnj.org accounts and be able to see morning announcements from their email.
  • Please note that encore classes will not be in session until Monday, 9/14.
  • Instruction will be a combination of synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous instruction (live, in-person) will happen via Google Meet or Zoom for grades K-8. Invitations and times for meet ups outside of whole group will be provided by the teacher in their Google Classroom. Asynchronous instruction (remote learning assignments) will happen through our district instructional platforms and Google Classroom. The teachers will explain and assign that work.
  • A reminder that our General Instruction Schedule will look like this:
  • Students will need to be available during the school day from 8:30 to 2:45. Attendance will be taken by the teacher for each meeting.
Where can I find the Google Classroom for my child's teacher?
  • Teachers will be communicating primarily through their Google Classroom Pages. Once teachers have returned on September 8, we will post their classrooms and codes on the Cordero Digest Blog. Student class schedules will also be available on the teacher Google Classroom Page. A robocall will be provided to share that they are ready.
What if I do not have a device?
  • Clearly, there is a need to be connected and have a device to complete the work and participate. Please complete the Technology Survey to help us plan to ensure all students can access instruction. Completing that survey lets us know that you need a device.
  • Please note that we have given out chromebooks already to many who have completed the survey. We are awaiting an order of chromebooks and Mr. Cabrera (scabrera@jcboe.org) will be in contact when the chromebook you request is available for pick up.
  • We will have more information on Wednesday for those who do not have access.
Reminders
  • If you are new to our community, please sign up for emails by filling out this form.
  • We are in the office and available to take calls from 8-2:30. If you would like to schedule a zoom meeting, you may also call to make an appointment or email contactps37@jcboe.org
